Documentary to air

LEWISTON — Douglas and Sonia Taylor, directors of the urban youth
outreach The Jesus Party, will show “The Cross,” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday
Sept. 24, at Jesus Party headquarters, 291 Bates St.

The 93-minute documentary is about Arthur Blessit, an ordinary man
passing through extraordinary
circumstances strengthened by personal faith and supernatural
perseverance. In the 1960s during the Jesus Movement, Blessit, a
street preacher on Sunset Strip in Hollywood, Ca., set out on a 40-year
journey carrying a 12-foot cross on his back through every
sovereign nation and major island group in the world.

The viewing will be on a big screen and is open to the public and
free of charge. Theater style popcorn and drinks will be served.
Children 14 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult. Due

Bottle drive

LEWISTON — A bottle drive to benefit the Lewiston High School cheerleaders will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at Rooper’s on Sabattus Street. For more information, call 786-0063.

Grant award

LEWISTON — Lewiston Adult Education was recently awarded a grant from the Barbara
and Robert Seward Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to offer an
Early College Preview program for adults in the community.

The program will provide recent GED and adult high school diploma
graduates, as well as College Transition Program participants, the
opportunity to take their first college course for free at a partnering
college institution. The Early College Preview is being run as an incentive to help
adults get into a college classroom for the first time. The
goal of this program is to help adults build confidence as a college
student, and encourage them to continue their studies and earn their
degree.
