DIXFIELD – Jordan Holmes rattled the back of the cage twice in the first half and Dirigo held on from there, grinding out a 2-1 victory over George’s Valley in MVC field hockey action Monday.
Trina Pulk and Sam Blanchette recorded assists for the Cougars (4-3), while Amber Woods stopped 14 to earn the win.
Ariana Woodworth led the Buccaneers (1-6) with a goal in the second half to pull her team close, and Aciera Smalley kept it tight with 16 saves in the cage in the losing effort.
Jay 12, Boothbay 2
JAY – Nine different Jay players scored and Ashley Quirrion needed to make just five saves as the Tigers pounced on the Seahawks for a 12-2 victory Monday.
Kelsea Beisaw, Gina Nemi and Rachel Calden all scored twice for Jay (6-2-0), which evened things up by scoring six goals in each half.
Sarah Caron netted both goals for Boothbay (0-7-0), and Madison McCarthy stopped nine balls in the loss.
Telstar 2, Hall-Dale 0
BETHEL – T.J. Cowin and Amanda Wiley scored one goal each to lift unbeaten Telstar to a 2-0 victory over Hall-Dale on Monday. Telstar’s defense was the story, allowing just one shot by the Bulldogs (3-3-1) to reach keeper Sam Tibbetts.
Cowin and Jamie Stevens registered assists in the victory for the Rebels (7-0-0).
Hannah Perry stopped 16 shots despite the loss, as Telstar outshot Hall-Dale 20-1, and held an identical advantage in penalty corners.
Girls’ soccer
Winslow 2, Leavitt 1
TURNER – Kaylee Constable scored from the wing early in the second half to snap a tie and lift unbeaten Winslow to a 2-1 girls’ soccer victory over Leavitt.
Alliya Veilleux gave the Black Raiders (7-0) a 1-0 advantage, but Tori Zupancic knotted the game at 1-1 at 22:16 of the first half on a pass from Paige Landry.
Danielle DuBois made 15 saves for the Hornets (4-3), while Jessica Gordon stopped seven shots for Winslow.
Waynflete 4, Gray-NG 0
PORTLAND – Sasha Timpson scored two goals and assisted on a third as Waynflete remained unbeaten with a 4-0 triumph over Gray-New Gloucester.
Lydia Stegemann and Becky Smith also scored for the Flyers (4-0).
Taylor Damon made six saves for the Patriots (0-5). Morgan Wilson and Nikki Ritter played well for Gray-New Gloucester.
Boys’ soccer
Dirigo 4, Liv. Falls 0
DIXFIELD – Senior Tyler Gates registered a hat trick and freshman T.J. Frost added another goal to lead Dirigo to a 4-0 win over Livermore Falls on Monday in an MVC soccer showdown.
The Cougars (6-0-0) remained unbeaten behind three saves from Caleb Turner, and a solid defensive effort that turned aside almost every Livermore Falls rush.
The Andies’ (3-3-0) Willie Brown stopped nine shots in the loss as Dirigo outshot Livermore Falls, 16-5.
Telstar 7, Carrabec 0
BETHEL – Ethan Morin poured in three goals to power Telstar to an easy 7-0 triumph over winless Carrabec in MVC boys’ soccer action Monday.
Tyler Brown chipped in with a pair of goals, while Jacob Wakefield and Nick Mills also scored for the Rebels (3-3). Morin, Brown and Casey Thornton were credited with assists.
Dan Vaughn stopped all five shots for the shutout, while Kenny Wood made four saves for Carrabec (0-7).
Mt. Abram 4, Jay 0
JAY – Mt. Abram received goals from four different players in a 4-0 MVC boys’ soccer triumph over Jay on Monday.
The Roadrunners (5-1) scored three times in the first half and never looked back. Goal scorers were Kenny Moore, Dylan Tisor, Jim Barker and Sullivan Kindinger.
Josh Beedy had one save in net for Mt. Abram, while Isaac Couture kept it close, while facing a 35-shot barrage and making 20 saves for Jay (1-5).
Richmond 3, Rangeley 1
RANGELEY – Michael Christianson scored the eventual game-winner as Richmond remained unbeaten with a 3-0 victory over Rangeley.
Ben Carver scored the lone goal of the first half at 24:52 to give the Bobcats (5-0) the early advantage. Eric Murray also scored for Richmond.
Jacob Simons put Rangeley on the scoreboard with a goal at 28:41 that narrowed the deficit to 2-1. Zack Abbott made 19 saves in goal for the Lakers (2-3-1), while Carver Burr had four saves for Richmond.
