As the result of the almost phenomenal growth of the Lewiston, Monmouth & Greene Telephone Co., a new two-position western electric switchboard has been installed at the Winthrop exchange. The new switchboard took the place of the single position board which has been in use ever since the Lewiston, Monmouth & Greene Co. has been in operation.
50 years ago, 1959
Lewis L. Incze, instructor of sociology at St. Mary’s General Hospital school of nursing and the hospital’s school of x-ray technology, has joined the faculty at Westbrook Junior College as an instructor of social sciences. He began his new duties yesterday. A special class schedule will allow him to fill his positions at both the junior college and the hospital.

Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy will speak at a fund-raising event in Auburn Friday night endorsing Maine Democratic candidates.
Kennedy will address a group of invited guests at the home of Democratic National Committeewoman Barbara Trafton.
Kennedy is expected to endorse Chipman Bull, who is running for Maine’s first district congressional seat, and Barry Hobbins, who is running for the second district congressional seat.
He will likely also encourage support for Maine House Majority Libby Mitchell, who is attempting to unseat Republican William Cohen from his Senate position, and make a pitch for Democratic presidential candidate Walter Mondale.
