Maine is fortunate to have a congressional delegation that understands the importance of preserving our natural environment for us and future generations. Both our U.S. House members showed their commitment by supporting climate change legislation voted on earlier this year.
Now we need Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to show their leadership again and support the Senate version of this landmark legislation when it comes up this fall. Not only will this legislation help address many of the issues that influence climate change, but it will also bring many new jobs to this state at a time when they are needed the most.
A national energy plan is needed that supports the transition to a clean energy economy and moves the nation away from dependence on foreign fossil fuels. I urge both senators to show their leadership and support the climate change legislation.
