FARMINGTON — The 11th annual Toys for Tots ATV Run will take place Saturday, Sept. 26, rain or shine. The ride, which will go from Farmington to Canton and back to Jay, is sponsored by the Western Maine, Mountain View, Canton and Brettuns Wheelers and Webb River Valley ATV Clubs.
Participants are asked to bring a new toy (protected from dust) or a cash donation. Those going should meet at McDonald’s parking lot in Jay at 7:30 a.m. or at the end of the Whistle Stop Trail on Town Farm Road in Farmington at 9 a.m. Registration will be from 8 to 9:45 a.m.; when meal tickets will be handed out and raffles will be sold. Winners of the raffles will be announced in Jay.
The group will leave Farmington at 10 a.m. to ride to Canton, where they will leave the toys with Western Maine Community Action, then on to Jay for a barbecue. Traffic control will be provided by the local police and fire departments.
“Every year we learn how to make it bigger and better,” said Karen Dalot of Western Maine ATV. “Unfortunately, we had no control over last year’s weather. We set the date a year in advance and there isn’t any way to predict the weather.” Hurricane conditions didn’t stop 158 people from coming out last year and in past years, the ride has attracted as many as 600 riders.
All toys will be distributed locally by Western Maine Community Action. Since 2004, the toy run has generated $30,744.67 in toys and donations.
