John B. Jalbert Jr.
1925 – 2009
LEWISTON — John B. Jalbert, 84, formerly of Webster Road now Jalbert Road, Lisbon died Tuesday, Sept. 22, at St. Mary’s D’Youville Pavilion with all his loving family at his side.
He was born in Lisbon, March 6, 1925, a son of the late John and Blanche (Bouchard) Jalbert Sr. He was educated in Lisbon schools and went on to graduate from the University of Ottawa and then graduated from University of Maine School of Law.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he landed on Normandy, fought at The Battle of the Bulge, and served in the Philippine Islands.
He married the love of his life, the former Frances Faith, on Dec. 1, 1956. She predeceased him in April 1997. He worked for 31 years for the Department of Transportation. He served 15 years on the Legislature board, where he served four years as chairman of Veterans Affairs.
That was something he took great pride in, he wanted to make certain veterans were being taken care of. He also served as a member of the Lisbon School Board and was a selectman for the town of Lisbon. He received a lifetime achievement award in 2008 for his decades of service to his town, state and country.
He was a former member of St. Anne’s Parish and the Knights of Columbus, a lifetime member of the VFW of Lisbon and the American Legion. He enjoyed playing golf, going camping, gardening and playing cribbage. He was well known for his story telling, jokes and “great debates.” His love for his family and his gregarious personality will be forever missed, along with everything he stood for.
He leaves a son, James Jalbert and his wife, Debra, of Casco; two daughters, Nancy Palmore and her husband, Phillip, of Lisbon and Susan Bates and her husband, Rodney, of Greene; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Douglas, Matthew, Jessica, Catherine, Angela and Jennifer; two great-granddaughters, Ashlyn and Mattisyn; two sisters, Joanne Brame of Ohio, and Regina Tyrell of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Robert; his brothers, Normand, Joel, Eddy, Albert, Pete, Willie and Henry; sisters, Sister Constance “Gertrude Jalbert” PM, Cecile Lemay, Jeannette Messier, Muriel Desjardins, Connie Duplissis and Lucille Springer.
A special thanks to the doctors and staff of D’Youville Pavilion for their care and compassion for John and his family.
