LIVERMORE FALLS — Town Manager Jim Chaousis is working on the final details of a proposed agreement with Time Warner to change the town’s regular phone system to a digital phone system.
Chaousis told selectmen Monday night that the move could save the town about $200 a month.
The town will pay $29.95 per line — the town has eight lines — and it includes unlimited long distance calls in state, interstate and Canada, he said.
Initially he had planned on listing only two phone numbers in the phone book, one police station line and one town office line, but Selectman Bill Demaray said he would like to see the departments listed such as the highway garage and fire station. Other selectmen agreed.
Chaousis said the calls usually come into the town office and clerks could give out those numbers. Each phone number costs $3 per month to be listed in the phone book.
Chairwoman Louise Chabot asked if there was any danger of being without service.
“Not anymore than we are now,” Chaousis said.
The plan is to keep a couple of regular lines in place until after Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department Communications Center dispatchers start dispatching emergency calls for the area, he said.
Once that proves to be running OK, he said, those lines will probably be eliminated.
In other business, selectmen appointed resident Scott Roberts to the Budget Committee. They also appointed businessman John Ross on the condition he is a registered voter in the town as the committee’s bylaws require.
Two more Budget Committee members are needed to fill the nine-member panel, Chaousis said.
