I recently read a letter to the editor from Amedeo Lauria. In his letter, (Sept. 18), he stated that, as a state senator for Sabattus, I’m not supposed to attend community meetings there to answer questions as to whether or not a state law has been violated. Wow.

Yes, I plead guilty to being from Leeds. Lauria should understand that it is my responsibility, just as it is Rep. Stacy Dostie’s, to answer questions related to state laws when asked. I’m proud to say that in the other nine towns I represent, town business is conducted only at well-publicized, open selectmen meetings.

In fact, when I discussed the recent developments concerning the “resignation” of the former Sabattus town manager with selectmen from other towns in my district, all agreed that the intent of the state’s right-to-know law had been violated.

Of the five selectmen in Sabattus, I would like to take the opportunity to say how proud I am of Jeff Baril and Paul Loesberg for attempting to conduct Sabattus town business as it should be — in the open.

Sen. John Nutting, Leeds
