Clayton ‘Tim’ Heath Jr.
1924 – 2009
SOUTH PARIS — Clayton E. (Tim) Heath Jr., 85, of Norway, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.
He was born in Lynn, Mass., May 13, 1924, the only child of Clayton E. Heath Sr. and Marian Rice True Heath. He lived in Norway most of his life. A 1942 graduate of Norway High School, he attended the University of Maine in Orono. He interrupted his studies to enlist in the U.S. Navy to serve in World War ll as a radioman-gunner in a torpedo squadron, based on a Third Fleet aircraft carrier.
In 1948, he married Helen Tamlander of Greenwood, who survives him. He graduated from Bates College in Lewiston in the class of 1950, and was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. He later became a general insurance agent and realtor, and was owner and president of the David A. Klain Insurance Agency in Norway until his retirement in 1980.
He was a past president of the Norway Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the Western Maine Board of Realtors, a past president of the Weary Club of Norway, a former trustee of the Stephens Memorial Hospital, a former director of the Maine Publicity Bureau and for many years, a trustee of the Norway Savings Bank. He was also a charter member of the Norway Junior Chamber of Commerce, a member of Oxford Lodge, A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Kora Temple Shrine. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by his three daughters, Diana Nadeau and her husband, Maurice, of Greenwood, Lauri Roode and her husband, David, of Intervale, N.H., and Melinda S. Heath of South Paris; grandchildren, Marianne Nadeau Kaplan and her husband, Evan, Michael Nadeau, his wife, Theresa, and daughter, Ciara, Shawn Roode and his fiancé, Meredith Haney, Mariah and Timothy Seames and Christiana and Sarah Heath; cousin, Mary Anna True Beer, her husband, Charles, and children, Stephanie Forgie and Gregory Beer.
He was predeceased by his son, James C. Heath in 2000.
