Mary Louise Boyle-Durgin
1924 – 2009
DIXFIELD — Mary Louise Boyle-Durgin, 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, at her residence on Weld Street, Dixfield, with her family by her side.
She was born in Rumford, March 29, 1924, the daughter of A. Irving and Elizabeth (MacDonald) Boyle. She graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1942 and from the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, N.Y., Class of 1946, and received her master’s degree in latin and french languages from Columbia University, Class of 1947. She also went back to Columbia University to study Russian language.
She taught latin and french in Floral Park, N.Y., until retirement, due to illness in 1964.
She was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior in Rumford. She was a writer and wrote the books “Odyssey of Love” and “Justifiable Intent.” She also loved traveling with her husband and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very kind and gentle woman.
She was married in Dixfield, Dec. 6, 1980 to Perlie R. “Lee” Durgin, who survives of Dixfield. Other survivors include a stepson, James Durgin of Mexico; stepdaughters, Sonjia Ellis and husband, Carl, of Rumford and Donna Landry and husband, James, of Mexico; three stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
