Richard Lawrence Monto
1939 – 2009
SCARBOROUGH — Richard Lawrence Monto, 70, of Gray, passed away with his loving family by his side on Sept. 22, at Maine Veterans’ Home, after a long illness.
He was born on April 22, 1939, in Auburn, the son of Rita Doris Poulin and Clifford Herbert Monto Sr. of New Gloucester. He was the oldest of two sons. He graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1957.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was employed by H.P. Hood milk division for 39 years. In 1966, he married Donna Lea Brown of Gray, where they resided for 42 years and raised two wonderful daughters, Tascha and Tori, before moving to Scarborough in April of this year.
He took great pleasure in spending time with his daughters and his two adoring grandsons, Jordan and Sam. He always enjoyed fishing, hunting and snowmobiling, especially at his camp in Eustis with many dear friends and family. He took great pride in keeping his “Chevy” pick-up trucks spotless.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna Lea Monto; two daughters, Tascha S. Monto and Tori J. Rosu-Myles and husband, Richard; two grandsons, Jordan S. Monto and Sam R. Rosu-Myles; one brother, Clifford “Skip” H. Monto Jr.;five nephews; three nieces; and other relatives and many friends.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Clifford and Rita Monto.
