I was surprised to read the letter from Amedeo Lauria (Sept. 18).

I am a resident of Sabattus, and have been for most of my life. The recent situation with the selectmen upsets me. It upsets me for two reasons: First, I am a resident, and I believe that town officials should be ethical, honest and open in the way that they conduct town business; and second, being the local state representative, I think state and public officials should follow state laws, especially when one of the offending selectmen used to be a state representative himself.

Because of the current situation, with three of the five selectmen being what I consider unethical, I have submitted legislation to clarify the current Freedom of Access Law so that unethical, serialized meetings among public officials, in any manner, would not be allowed. I have talked to several members of the Right to Know Advisory Committee and they are very much in support of this legislation being introduced this session.

I want to thank the citizens who showed up at the citizens’ meeting to show their support for a return to more open government in Sabattus.

Rep. Stacy Dostie, Sabattus
