Trinity 2, Bates 0
LEWISTON — Sophomore forward Leigh Howard snuck the first and game-winning goal into the left corner of the cage to lift Trinity College to a 2-0 victory over Bates College in women’s soccer action Saturday.
The Bobcats (2-2-1) were led by sophomore goalie Annie Burns, who provided a stellar performance with a career-high 17 saves.
Howard gave the Bantams (2-1-2) some breathing room when she deposited the ball into the net in the 78th minut of the game to put Trinity up 2-0.
Field hockey
UMaine-Farmington 5, Lasell 0
FARMINGTON — Ashley Wentworth scored two goals and assisted on another as the University of Maine at Farmington blanked Lasell College 5-0 in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.
Wentworth set the tone early by carrying the opening possession from midfield and going in for the score 18 seconds into the contest. Hattie Agnew added a goal and an assist for the Beavers (3-3) with Lilly Barry and Jennifer Bernhardt each tallying a goal.
Felisha Taylor and Sarah Brown shared netminding duties for Farmington. Taylor did not need to make a save, but Brown booted away bids by Tia Pratt of South Paris and Natasha Wood at the start of the second half to preserve the shutout.
Trinity 3, Bates 0
LEWISTON — Alanna Capasso scored the opening goal as Trinity rolled to a 3-0 victory ove Bates in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.
Capasso’s goal came off a penalty corner and put the Bantams up 1-0 going into halftime. The Bantams (6-0) opened up the lead on a goal from Carrie Wolcott and picked up an insurance tally from Christy Bradley.
Trinity outshot the Bobcats (1-5) by a 22-11 margin, forcing goalie Katie McEnroe into making a career-high-tying 17 saves. Goalie Gina Dinallo made six saves to earn the win in net for Trinity.
Men’s soccer
Trinity 1, Bates 0 (OT)
LEWISTON — The Bates College men’s soccer team battled Trinity College to a deadlock in regulation, but sophomore forward Dan Mayernick scored in overtime to lift the Bantams to a 1-0 triumph.
Mayernick scored as he took a crossing pass from junior midfielder Peter Marlette. Mayernick and Bobcat (1-4) sophomore goalie Greg Watts collided, and the ball drifted into the net for the game-winner.
Watts recorded four saves for Bates, while sophomore Grant Schonberg turned in three saves to earn the win in net for the Bantams (4-0).
