From the content of some of the letters to the editor that I have been reading, it sounds as though a lot of people seem to think that Catholics are biased because they oppose the same-sex marriage bill.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Same-sex couples have the same rights as all other people. The objection is the use of the word “marriage.”

For 2,000 years, marriage has meant a union between a man and a woman. In some societies, a man is allowed more than one wife, but that is still a man and a woman.

My solution would be to repeal the law as presently written and make a new law omitting the word “marriage.”

Hopefully, then everyone would be happy.
