Tourists may have headed home and summer leagues wrapped up, but that hasn’t stopped local golf courses from producing holes-in-one in rapid-fire succession. Five aces were reported to the Sun Journal community sports desk within the last week.

Zach Turmenne achieved the feat at Poland Spring Country Club. Don Turmenne Sr. and Don Turmenne Jr. witnessed Zach’s bid for family bragging rights on the 13th hole.

Ray Samson used a 3-wood to solve the 209-yard No. 8 at Prospect Hill Golf Course in Auburn during seniors play. Armond Marcotte, Phil Violet and Norm Hankins looked on.

Bob Willer of Lewiston logged his first career hole-in-one Saturday at Apple Valley Golf Course in Lewiston. Willer used a 7-iron to attack the 147-yard third hole. Bob’s wife Monique Willer witnessed the shot along with Carol and Marcel Morin.

Two first-timers also carded aces at Martindale Country Club in Auburn. Rick Miles of Auburn holed out from 155 yards on No. 17, using a 7-iron. Pat Leavitt, John O’Malley and John Turner were playing partners. And Auburn’s Jon Furbush, men’s basketball coach at Bates College, dropped his 8-iron offering into the cup on the 152-yard 11th hole. Tom Fournier, Jim Piper and Mike Paradis were in the Furbush foursome.
