WILTON — The Wilton CareerCenter will hold free workshops for the public in October. They will be held at the center’s offices at 865 U.S. Route 2E, and will begin promptly at listed times. Registration is required.

“CareerCenter Employment and Training Orientation,” Every Monday (except Oct. 12), 10 a.m.-noon. An explanation of training programs and career exploration. This workshop also provides a brief introduction to services at the Wilton CareerCenter.

“CareerCenter and Job Search Orientation,” Tuesdays, 9 a.m.-noon. Find out what services and resources the Wilton CareerCenter has to offer those newly unemployed or looking for a new career. Attendees can also become registered for the CareerCenter job matching system at the end of the workshops.

“CareerCenter Youth Orientation,” Oct. 8, 10 a.m.-noon; Oct. 22, 10 a.m.-noon, for youths 16-21 looking for a job who would like some guidance about which careers might fit them best.

“Resumé Writing,” Oct. 19, 1:30-3 p.m. A resumé and cover letter is a reflection of a person’s knowledge, skills and abilities. Explore the basics of resumés and applications and learn what can make a resumé or application stand out. Please bring work and educational history.

“Ace That Interview!” Oct. 15, 2:30-4 p.m. Learn how to prepare for a successful job interview. Learn to promote the qualifications that directly match what the employer needs. Be prepared for the “tough” questions and able to answer them with confidence. Obtain tips on how to dress and what to take to the interview.

“Preparing Your Resumé for Online Applications,” Oct. 5, 1:30-3 p.m.; Oct. 26, 1:30-3 p.m. Help to format a resumé so it can be attached to an online application. Please bring work and educational history.

“Creating Your Professional Portfolio,” Oct. 15, 10 a.m.-noon. Creating a personal portfolio allows a person to document his or her acquisition of knowledge, skills and expertise. It is an important record that will be useful in a job search and career planning, or in the pursuit or higher education. This workshop will outline the process and help an attendee create this important document.

“MEO-101 — Essentials of College Planning,” Oct. 22, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Instructions on filling out financial aid forms to assist a person in getting the maximum amount in grants or loans. Attendees must preregister for this session by calling 1-800-281-3703.

“O*net Ability Profiler.” Call for further information as this workshop requires five or more people for attendance. This is a career exploration tool that helps clients plan work lives using a paper and pencil format with optional apparatus parts and computerized scoring. Results can be used to identify strengths for which more training/education is needed, and to identify occupations that fit their strengths.

“Community College Adviser,” a college adviser will talk to you about your options to attend college. He will help you explore college choices based on your interests and career goals. Call for appointment with Brian Wallace at 1-207-755-5364
