NORWAY — Two art classes for adults, drawing and color theory, with instructor Geoffrey Workman, are being offered by the Western Maine Art Group at the Lajos Matolcsy Arts Center, 480 Main St.
Drawing will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Wednesdays. Students will be introduced to drawing terms, materials, techniques and perspective to further explore their creativity. The class fee for a six-week session is $100. Participants will need a sketch pad of choice (16-inch x 20-inch and up), 2B pencil, vine charcoal, black charcoal pencil, white charcoal pencil, kneaded eraser and gum eraser.
Color theory will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Wednesdays. Students will be instructed in color usage, principles and general rules. Students may create color notes in water color or nupastels. The class fee for a six-week session is $120. Materials needed include: appropriate paper pad for colors, 2B pencil, water colors or nupastels and kneaded eraser.
Workman was introduced to art at an early age by his artist mother. His father and brothers sparked his love of hunting and fishing which soon sprung a passion for nature, wildlife and the outdoors. Combining this with his talent for painting and sculpting, he began to create pieces of art on his artistic journey.
Workman studied art education with professor Warren Kimball, but eventually focused the study of art earning earned a bachelor of fine art from the University of Southern Maine, where he also won Sculptor of the Year. He is a member of the Western Maine Art Group and sat on the board of directors for the Northern Vermont Artist.
