NORWAY — The Christ Episcopal Church, 35 Paris St., and St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, 32 Paris St., will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their covenant on Sunday, Oct. 4.
At 2 p.m., the covenant will be renewed at Christ Church, with hymns, scripture readings and words from both the Roman Catholic Bishop, The Most Rev. Richard Malone and the Episcopal Bishop, the Right Rev. Stephen Lane.
Following the renewal service at Christ Church, at 2:30 p.m., the congregation
will move across the road to the front lawn of St. Catherine’s.
Because Oct. 4 is also the Feast Day of St. Francis, the two churches will hold their annual Blessing of the Animals under a canopy at St. Catherine’s. Fr. Harnett of St. Catherine’s and the Rev. Anne Stanley of Christ Church, together with Lane and Malone, will bless each animal that is there. All creatures that enrich the life of a person or a family are welcome, including dogs, cats, mice, gerbils, fish, birds, horses, sheep, even toy or stuffed animals.
Following the blessing, refreshments will be served, for both humans and animals.
The covenant between the two churches was begun in 1979. Christ Episcopal Church and St. Catherine’s share space and resources, work on community outreach projects, study, pray and worship together. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more details, call 743-6782.
