Mildred M. Asselin
1929 – 2009
LEWISTON — Mildred M. Asselin 80, a resident of Roger Avenue died Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Marshwood Health Care Facility with her family by her side after a long illness.
She was born in Van Buren, June 16, 1929, the daughter of Armand and Zanaide M. (Dubois) Couillard.
She has been a resident of this community most of her life, and had been a parishioner of Holy Family Church. She married Bertrand R. Asselin on Aug. 21, 1948, who then died on May 5, 1988. She was employed more than 42 years as a shoe worker at Knapp Shoe, until her retirement in 1987.
Her hobbies included gardening, quilting and was a lover of animals.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel B. Asselin and Michael R. Asselin and his wife, Elaine, all of Lewiston; two daughters, Marilyn E. Keith and her husband, Russell A., of Lewiston and Donna A. Ponte and her husband, Gregory, of West Gardiner; five brothers, Larry Couillard and his wife, Marie, of Auburn, Roger Couillard and his wife, Evelyne, of Wales, Armand Couillard and his wife, Yvonne, of Lewiston, Eugene Couillard of Lewiston and Normand Couillard and his wife, Irene, of Andersonville, N.C.; three sisters, Omerine Desjardins and her husband, Leo, Jeanne Lachance of West Hill, Calif., and Jacqueline Fish of Rumford; one sister-in-law, Cecile Couillard of Lewiston; five grandchildren, Ian Asselin, Russell Keith, Emily Keith, Elizabeth Asselin and Kathleen Asselin; and two great-grandchildren, Alisha Asselin and Zachary Asselin.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Roland Couillard; and one sister, Theresa Bussiere.
