I write this as a passionate Christian and struggling member of the Catholic Church.
I am deeply disappointed and saddened by the full-force efforts of the church to ban the passage of same-sex marriage. I have a long history of involvement with the Catholic Church.
It appears that the church is devoting so much time and money to a cause that perpetuates separation among God’s children, and breeds hate instead of promoting love as Jesus instructed: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you.” — John 13:34.
I feel betrayed and abandoned by the Catholic leaders at such a difficult time. These are the times when people look to their religious leaders to offer support and guidance by reminding us that Jesus taught love and acceptance of everyone.
It is not my responsibility to judge my neighbor. Nor is it theirs to judge me.
It is time for the church to soften itsviews in support of love and tolerance instead of encouraging judgment and division among people.
