LEWISTON — The Franco-American Heritage Center will present the Michael Nichols film “Wit” Thursday and Friday, Oct. 1-2, in support of the Patrick Dempsey Center For Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center.

The film, based on the Margaret Edson play, revolves around Vivian Bearing, a hard-nosed English professor who has been diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. She reflects on her reactions to the cycle the cancer takes, the treatments and significant events in her life.

The people who watch over her are Jason Posner, an ambitious clinical fellow; Susie Monahan, a sweet-tempered private nurse who provides Bearing’s day-to-day care; and Dr. Kelekian, the head doctor who just wants results.

The film will be shown at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Dempsey and Franco centers.
