Amos A. Campbell
1927 – 2009
AUBURN — Amos Arnold Campbell, 82, a previous resident of Andover, and for the last 2½ years, a resident of Clover Manor in Auburn, died peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Hospice House after a short illness.
He was born April 11, 1927, in Andover, the son of Daniel and Anne Dubois (Woods) Campbell.
He lived in Andover for 42 years. He worked for Raymond Akers hauling logs to wood mills in Maine and New Hampshire. In 1967, he moved his family to Auburn and worked at Pioneer Plastics until his retirement in 1989.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be remembered by his family, friends and co-workers as someone who loved to tease; who enjoyed life and who lived his life in service to others. He was a gentle man with a kind soul, a man of strong values and who delighted in family traditions.
On Oct. 29, 1949, he married Leah Mae Stearns. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage. She died Nov. 24, 1999.
He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from April 1945 until July 1946. He left the service to return home to care for his mother who had a terminal illness. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion.
He leaves behind his son, Larry Campbell of Bear Pond; his daughter, Crystal Guerrette and James Thibodeau of Wales; three grandchildren, Sara Caron and her husband, Craig, Erin Descoteaux and her husband, Robert and Derek Campbell; three great-grandchildren, Olivia and Sophie Caron and Aden Campbell; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and four siblings Francis Campbell, Marguerite Emerson, Marjorie Jodrey and Ceceila Remington.
