LEWISTON – The SeniorsPlus Education Center, 8 Falcon Rd., is offering the following classes:

Nordic Walking: Thursdays, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, from 9 to 10 a.m.
Walking with specially designed poles, it provides a low impact exercise and burns 40 percent more calories than regular walking alone. Walking poles will be provided.
The class series is $25.

Medicare and Health Care Reform: What Gives? Issues and Answers: Monday, Oct. 5, from 9 to 10 a.m. John Glaser, grassroots manager for the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare in Washington D.C., a nonprofit, nonpartisan education and advocacy organization, will discuss health care reform issues and how it might affect Medicare. There will be time for questions and answers.

Lunch and Learn: Medicare and Social Security: Wednesday, Oct. 7, from noon to 1 p.m. Those who are new to Medicare or who would like more clarification may bring a lunch and join Roland Bussiere for a presentation and short video about Medicare, Social Security benefits and eligibility.

Caregiving for Someone with Cognitive Impairment: Friday, Oct. 16, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. David Currier from the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, will provide guidance and support to family members, loved ones and caregivers living with this difficult situation.

Fire Safety and Prevention: Monday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 2 p.m. Participants will learn how to properly safeguard themselves from fires. Richard Taylor from the State Fire Marshal’s Office will present.

Oil Painting for Beginners: Tuesdays, Oct. 20 through Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon. No experience is necessary for the class. Susan Roux will teach the basics including capturing form, light, perspective, depth, proportion, color and mixing color.
Cost is $95 and includes all supplies.

Gentle Yoga: Fridays, Oct. 30, Nov. 6, 13 and 20, from 3 to 4 p.m. Nationally certified yoga instructor Heidi L. Audet will guide the class through a flowing style of yoga that combines deep breathing with a set of sequences of moves.
Cost is $32 for the series or $10 drop in fee for each class.

Alzheimer’s Support Group: Meets the second Monday of each month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. No preregistration is required for the support group.
