LEWISTON — La Rencontre will meet at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 2, at the Franco-American Heritage Center. A meal will be followed by Claire Quintal of Worcester, Mass., speaking on Franco-American immigration history and a musical presentation by local performing artists, Roger Bouffard and Robert Mathieu. Patrons are encouraged to speak only French during the two-hour meal and program.
The meal will feature center-sliced pork roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas, carrots, beverage and dessert. The cost of the meal is $7 each person.
Quintal, founding director emeriti of the French Institute and professor emeriti of French and Francophone culture and civilization at Assumption College in Worcester, received her doctorate from the University of Paris. As a member of the Archives Committee of the Commission Franco-Quebecoise, she undertook the task of referencing all archival holdings in the U.S. on Franco-Americans.
She is currently at work on two projects. One of the projects is a book containing biographies/bibliographies of all Franco-American writers who have written in French.
Following Quintal are Bouffard and Mathieu who will entertain in their presentation of their French musical program. All are invited to attend and reservations can be made by calling Claudette Violette at 786-6936 or the center at 783-1585.
