Verlie L. Hubbard

1945 – 2009

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Verlie L. Hubbard (DeRocco), 63 of Murfreesboro, Tenn., passed away on Sept 16, losing her battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 28, 1945, to Gladys and Gerald Knox of Peru. She was educated in Rumford and was a graduate of Stephens High School. She was employed with Shaw’s Supermarket in Lewiston for 19 years and resided in Auburn during that time.

In 1987, she married James C. Hubbard Jr. and they moved in 1989 to Venice, Fla., where they resided for eight years, making many friends. Jim’s employment transferred them to Murfreesboro in 1997, where they have a beautiful home. She enjoyed crafts, gardening and riding with Jim on their Harley. She fought Jim, saying you’ll never own a bike! In time, when she heard the bike starting up she would be right there with helmet in hand ready to go. Her favorite ride was in 2006 when they traveled to Sturgis, S.D., for the annual bike rally.

Her loving and caring personality and her larger than life sense of humor gave her lifelong friends, all who will miss her, including her two very spoiled dogs, Brandy, 16, and Jaspe, 3, who miss her terribly.

She is survived by her husband, James C. Hubbard Jr. of 22 years, who never left her side during her battle with cancer; a daughter, Deana L. DeRocco of New Gloucester; a son, Robert A. DeRocco of Waterville; stepdaughter, Sandra May and her husband, Alan, of Oxford; stepdaughter, Wendy Gilomen of Gray; stepgrandson, Christopher Noble; and stepgranddaughter, Rebecca Noble; three sisters, Lila Bell and Muriel Buswell, both of Buckfield and Elaine Boggs of Florida; two brothers, James Knox of Buckfield and Eugene Knox of Rumford; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brother, Robert Knox; a sister, Velma Knox; half brother, Kenneth Knox; and half sister, Annie Beck.

Also, a huge thanks to her friends in Tennessee for all of their support.
