Potluck

POLAND — The Ricker Memorial Library will host a Person to
Person potluck from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4. Mark Bosse, chief of the Poland Fire and Rescue, and Perry Edwards, Maine Inland
Fisheries and Wildlife regional coordinator will speak about safety precautions for
homeowners and homemakers, and give information for
outdoorsmen and private land owners. The potluck will be held before
the presentation and participants are asked to bring a casserole, and a
salad or dessert to share. People of all ages are welcome. For more

Rebekah lodge

AUBURN — Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 will meet on Monday, Oct. 5, at the
Odd Fellows and Rebekahs Home, 85 Caron Lane. A 6 p.m. potluck supper will precede the annual meeting, when the annual reports of the vice grand, secretary, treasurer and trustees will be read. The new
officers for the coming year will be installed by Lucille Nelson,
acting district deputy president. Nelson is a member of Liberty and a past president of the Rebekah Assembly of Maine. She has chosen Esther
Tucker as her marshal to assist with the installation, who is also a
member of Liberty and past assembly marshal of the Rebekah Assembly.

At the last meeting Cathy Hunnewell was chosen to represent Liberty as
delegate at the Rebekah Assembly of Maine on Oct. 15 and 16 in South
Portland. Lucille Nelson was chosen as alternate.

Valley festival

AUBURN — Lost Valley Ski Area will have its 21st annual Festival at
the Valley from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, as a fundraiser for
scholarships given to underprivileged students. Entertainment will
include live music and presentations by Nick Knowlton, Five Face North
and Thunder Road. The Extreme Sports bungee jumper and rock wall simulator will be there and The Vertical Outlaws will perform. There
will be a mechanical bull, a Maine Event All Star Cheering event, ball
bounce and slide for kids as well as other family activities including
face painting, $1 chairlift rides and hay wagon rides to the Apple
Ridge Farm and petting zoo.

Information on all Lost Valley ski programs, teaching opportunities, handicap skiing and ski patrol will be available.

Fellowship

LISBON FALLS — The Lisbon Area Widows Fellowship will meet on Monday, Oct. 5, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, School Street. The gathering will begin at 11:30 a.m. for fellowship, followed by a potluck lunch. All interested widows in the area are invited to attend. The group meets the first Monday of each month unless a holiday, then the gathering is held on the second Monday.

Learning seminar

AUBURN — A free seminar, “Dyslexia and Other Learning Differences
Deciphered,” will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, in the
Androscoggin Room
at the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.  

The seminar will cover the root cause of learning disabilities and how
to correct learning disabilities involving reading, writing, math and
attention focus skills. It is intended for people who have learning
disabilities, parents of learning disabled children or anyone who wants
to better understand the root cause of learning disabilities.
