FARMINGTON — Prescott Street was closed Thursday while workers from Bruce Manzer Inc. prepared the road to be paved Friday.
Over the summer, the town’s Public Works Department rebuilt the deck of the bridge that spans the full width of the road in front of Rollo Pond, said Denis Castonguay, director.
The department applied for funding help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. While FEMA didn’t come through with the funding, it did help create an engineering plan that included replacing the broken pieces. A Geogrid, or piece of fabric, was placed over the bridge and filled with stone. The bridge now comprises granite, gravel and stone, he said.
In addition, a sidewalk along Prescott from the parking lot south of Roberts Learning Center at the University of Maine at Farmington was created. UMF is helping to fund the approximately 500-foot sidewalk that runs to a second UMF parking lot also on Prescott Street.
Funding for the bridge repair was covered by the Public Works budget, he said.
Ray Tingley of Embden, Fred McLean of North Anson and James Dufault of Bingham, a crew from Bruce Manzer Inc., work Thursday to prepare a section of Prescott Street in Farmington for paving on Friday.
