OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Volunteer Firefighters Association will have its sixth annual harvest dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Otisfield Community Hall, with music by The Suspects.
The dance is the association’s major fundraiser and supports their involvement in the community with events such as Fire Prevention Week and the Otisfield Winter Carnival. The money raised also helps support the Fire Department.
Due to the generosity of friends and neighbors last year, the group now has a fully trained and equipped six-member Rapid Intervention Team whose purpose is to rescue trapped or injured firefighters. They were also able to purchase additional cold water rescue gear.
During the town meeting in June, residents approved the association’s request to develop a First Responders Program. First Responders will include Fire Department members who are also trained Emergency Medical Technicians. They will be the first to respond to the scene of an accident or sudden illness and will provide care while waiting for PACE to arrive. This year, the association’s goal is to fund the purchase of an AED (automated external defibrillator) for the program.
Admission to the dance is $10 each person. Tickets are available at the Otisfield Town Office, The Village Gift Barn in Norway, Carter’s Cross-Country and Ski Center in Oxford and the night of the dance at the door. Snacks will be provided by the association at no cost.
Those who cannot make it to the dance, but would like to support the event, may send donations to Spurr’s Corner Fire Station, 994 State Route 121, Otisfield, ME 04270. Checks should be made payable to the Otisfield Volunteer Firefighters Association.
