This is in response to the article, “Repower Maine,” printed in the Sun Journal Sept. 27.

The article’s promotion of a cap-and-trade policy should have called attention to the cost/benefit of such legislation to make people realize what the bill would do to our pocketbooks. The U.S. House passed the bill by one vote.

The people behind Repower Maine are the same people who pushed and succeeded in shutting down the only nuclear plant in Maine (Maine Yankee in Wiscasset). A nuclear power plant would do more to reduce green house gas emissions than any cap-and-trade legislation.

Stories should tell both sides. What would be the cost to the average Mainer if the cap-and-trade bill is enacted? What would be the indirect cost impact on Maine’s industries and small businesses and world competitiveness?
