HEBRON — Hebron Academy Head of School John King has announced that 11 students from Hebron Academy have earned the designation of AP Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program Exam.
The AP Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advance placement or both for successful performance on the AP Exam.
Ashley Waldron of Raymond qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. The daughter of Laura Poi and Scott Waldron, she is attending the University of Vermont this fall.
Lydia Drown of Leeds qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. She is the daughter of Scott and Grace Drown and is attending Smith College.
Qualifying for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with grades of 3 or higher are Class of 2009 graduates Claire Cummings of Norway, Sarah Fensore and Mary Randall of New Gloucester, Nien-Chia Hsu of Taiwan, Elijah Hughes of Raymond, Leah Schultz of Harrison, John Speranza of Hopkinton, Mass., and Michael Zielski of Auburn. Cory O’Brien, a member of the Class of 2010 from Tewksbury Mass., also qualified as an AP Scholar.
The Hebron Academy students took AP Exams in May 2009 after completing their courses. About 18 percent of the more than 1.4 million high school students in more than 16,000 secondary schools worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar.
