Althea St. Laurent-Polley
1934 – 2009

AUBURN — Althea St. Laurent-Polley, 75, of Wales, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Hospice House, with family by her side.

She was born Feb. 2, 1934. She played a pivotal role in her community, dedicating herself to improving the lives of all she met. She worked for Pine Tree Legal Assistance for 34 years as a paralegal and other community organizations. One of her greatest accomplishments was the formation of the Abused Woman’s Advocacy Program.

She also helped form the Lewiston Tenants Union, served on the board of Head Start in Lewiston, the Downtown Neighborhood Association and United Low Income. She graduated from Edward Little High School and from New Hampshire College, where she earned her master’s degree.

She met and married the love of her life, Ray H. Polley of Wales.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Polley of Wales; four daughters, April Cyr of Wales, Nona Ostrander of Sabattus, Cathy Crowley and her husband, Larry, of Wales and Kelly Wilson of Wales; three stepchildren, Patrick and his wife, Jennifer Polley, of Chelsea, Cindy Palmer and partner, DJ Cope, of Lewiston and Jill Polley of Portland; grandchildren, Crystal, Merrill (Chip) Jr., Clyde, Sheldon, Christopher, Veronica, Matthew, Myriah, Jessica, Nicole, Nathaniel, Nicholas and Christopher; and many great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; daughter, Charlene; and grandson, Corey.
