Polly F. Moore
1916 – 2009
WATERVILLE — Polly F. Moore passed away unexpectedly in Waterville on Monday, Oct. 5, with family by her side.
Polly Anna Mae Foster was born Sept. 24, 1916, in Belfast to Jobe and Nellie (Bambrick) Foster. She graduated as salutatorian of her class at Unity High School, Unity in 1934 and entered Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in January 1935, earning her registered nursing degree in 1939.
Upon graduation, she was employed at Boston Lying In and Boston Children’s Hospital, as well as Maine hospitals and as a private duty nurse. She was a lifelong nurse and caregiver for her family, friends, neighbors, and organizations up until the time of her death.
She had a gift to see the positive in everything and to seek out the good in all but she will be remembered for her sheer strength and determination to charge headlong into life accepting people and events as they came her way and always making a difference.
She married Albert L. Moore of Fairfield on Oct. 4, 1940, starting a life long partnership spanning 61 years in which they raised their family, traveled to nearly every state in the USA with Maine Bankers Association. She enjoyed being upcountry at camp, Skunk Point on Moosehead Lake, winters in Arizona, and making lifelong friends along the way.
Her passion for the outdoors was timeless. Walking, skiing, fishing, swimming, tennis, gardening and creating floral arrangements were special times for her. When she wasn’t busy in her gardens or outside and other interests included sewing, quilting, knitting, handcrafts and cooking, she enjoyed hosting family and friends at luncheon and dinner parties as well as family gatherings for many years on Christmas Eve. She delighted in bringing people together.
She was an active member of the Waterville Maine Community Garden Club, the Pleasant Street Methodist Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She will be remembered for her generous spirit to her community, volunteering wherever and whenever she was needed and asked.
She is survived by her son, Ben Moore and fiancé, Judy Lizotte, of Augusta; a daughter, Lynn Saxton and her companion, John Hoyt, of Rumford; granddaughter, Pamela Saxton of Seattle, Wash.; grandsons, Ben A. Moore and wife, Lisa. of Augusta and Travis Moore of Augusta; great-granddaughter, Heidi Moore of Augusta; niece, Bonnie Adams and husband, Jim. of Monmouth; and nephew, Dan Gwadosky, his wife, Cheryl and their children, Joshua and Jessica, all of Augusta.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; and grandson, Scottie Moore.
The family thanks the staff at Maine General Medical Center – Thayer Campus for their professional care and personal compassion. Additional thanks goes to Lorraine Sullivan, her health care companion and friend.
