BUCKFIELD — The Zadoc Long Free Library has announced that it has been awarded a Libri Foundation “Books for Children” Grant. The Libri Foundation is located in Eugene, Ore., and provides a 2:1 matching grant for children’s books.

The foundation matches funds between $50 and $350. This year they will also provide an additional $350 for math and science books. The library is trying to raise $350 by Dec. 1, to be eligible for $1400 worth of children’s books.

National Friends of Libraries Week is October 18 to 24. During the week, the library will have a display of baskets full of goodies to be raffled off. Tickets will be $2 each or $5 for three tickets. Proceeds will go towards the matching funds for the Libri grant. Any funds raised over the $350 mark will be used exclusively for the purchase of additional children’s books.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, the library will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to help celebrate National Friends of Libraries Week. Meet with other library patrons who are interested in forming a friends group to help support the library. There will be refreshments and attendees can view the baskets being raffled as well and purchase tickets.
