We were appalled by the boldly featured article, “Zombies on the Right,” by Dallas Morning News columnist Rod Dreher (Sept. 27).
First, the illustration by the Sun Journal’s Pete Gorski gave a distorted depiction of the Sept. 12 tea party/march on Washington. The ugly faces put on the marchers certainly did not reflect the crowd we saw at that event. The people in the march were Republicans, Democrats and Independents — all citizens who were concerned about the direction of the country.
Second, and most important, the title of the article is as far from the reality of what is happening in this country as one could get.
If Dreher thinks he is a conservative, then he should spend more time listening to and watching the most listened to and watched shows that he slams. He would then find neither Beck nor Limbaugh “foul-mouthed” or one of the “reactionaries and crackpots.” They merely open the public’s eyes to the truth by using audio and video of actual speeches and events, along with further investigation, to show people what is really happening.
The traditional media have been delinquent in keeping the public informed. The New York Times recently admitted it should start watching Fox News because it is missing stories.
We, like the diverse group of people at the tea party, are thinking individuals, not zombies, and what is happening in our government made us take time and expense to participate in the Sept. 12 March on Washington.
