LISBON — “Excellent police work” led to the arrest of a suspect in the holdup of an Androscoggin Savings Bank branch here Tuesday night, Lisbon police Chief David Brooks said.

Randy A. Krog Jr., 31, of 49 Wing St. Apt. 16C was arrested at his home at 9 p.m. Tuesday. He was charged with armed robbery and arrived at the Androscoggin County Jail early Wednesday.

The chief said some of the loot, along with items used in the robbery — including gloves and a hat — were recovered where they were discarded in Bowdoin. Police plan to return to that location Wednesday as they continue the investigation.

Brooks praised Detectives Bernard McAllister and William Tapley and Sgt. Scott Stewart, all of the Lisbon Police Department, for clearing the case. “These guys put it together,” he said.

Although Krog acted alone in the robbery, it’s possible others could be charged in connection with the case, and the suspect could face other charges, Brooks said.

A surveillance video, descriptions of the suspect by bank personnel and information gathered by police about other recent incidents in Lisbon helped investigators home in on the suspect, Brooks said. He said Krog’s apartment was placed under surveillance for a time after Tuesday’s robbery.

When police went to Krog’s apartment to make the arrest, he did not resist and was cooperative after being taken into custody, Brooks said.

Earlier in the day, police said a man wearing a black mask, black hoodie and jeans, may have displayed a red handgun to a bank teller while demanding money.

The bank is at 580 Lisbon St. and is near the intersection of Lisbon Street and Frost Hill Avenue.

The report was called in at 1:29 p.m. Police were seen inside the bank moments after the robbery was reported, and remained inside after 4 p.m. The robber made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified.

Krog is familiar to Lisbon police, and was convicted for the sale and use of drug paraphernalia in 2008, Brooks said.

“This is one of those cases where all of the pieces came together very quickly and we got our guy,” the chief said
