Ruth N. Ridley
1922 – 2009
AUBURN — Ruth N. Ridley, 86, a resident of Center Road in Litchfield, died early Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Hospice House of Androscoggin.
She was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Gardiner, the daughter of Roy and Hazel (Mariner) Leet. She attended schools in Gardiner and Richmond. On July 11, 1940 in Wales, she married the love of her life, Richard H. Ridley Sr. He passed away Oct. 28, 1999. She had worked for Webster Rubber in Sabattus for 16 years.
She and her husband also worked in the poultry and apple business and retired in 1980. She was an active member of the Litchfield Plains Baptist Church and was also a member of the Litchfield Grange. She enjoyed her flower gardens, crocheting and knitting.
She and Richard enjoyed camping and fishing as well as snowmobiling and deer hunting. They spent 16 years in Florida, for the winter months and spent time with family in the summer months at their camp in Monmouth.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Ridley Jr. and his wife, Marie and Ronald Ridley Sr. and his wife, Patricia, all of Litchfield; a sister, Lena Nelson of Vermont; her brother, Gary Leet of Winthrop; four grandsons, Ronald Ridley Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Litchfield, Albert Ridley of Sabattus, Rick Ridley and his wife, Judy, of Gray and Daniel Ridley of North Carolina; two granddaughters, Cathy Richmond and her husband, John, of New Mexico, and Valerie Hooper and her husband, Adam, of Litchfield; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Richard of 59 years; her grandson, Scott Ridley; and four brothers, twins, Roger and Richard, Wayne and Earl Leet.
The family would like to thank the Heritage Nursing Home staff of Winthrop, and also Hospice House of Androscoggin in Auburn. Special thanks to her nurses and caregivers for all they did for her.
