JAY — Area residents are invited to attend a community discussion Tuesday about the benefits of a clean-energy economy with a representative of Repower Maine.
The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Jay-Niles Memorial Library in North Jay. It is free and open to the public.
The event is sponsored by state Rep. Paul Gilbert, D-Jay, and Repower Maine, a project of the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonprofit organization working to persuade Americans of the importance and urgency of adopting and implementing effective and comprehensive solutions to combat global climate change.
The discussion will focus on comprehensive energy reform legislation that will create thousands of “green collar” jobs in Maine, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, stem the devastating effects of climate change and reward innovation and job creation.
“Repower Maine promotes energy efficiency. Maine has some of the oldest housing stock in the country. With that comes a large number of poorly insulated homes and a greater dependence on foreign oil to heat them. Increased weatherization funds would keep Maine homes warm, provide jobs to Maine residents, and reduce our reliance on foreign oil,” Rep. Gilbert, D-Jay, said.
If you plan to attend, respond to Delia Gorham of Repower Maine at 312-1105.
