Lewiston firemen are back to wearing neckties again.

The old custom of wearing a black tie has been started again by the Fire Commission and ties will be worn by the men on duty at the stations from Oct. 4 to April 1 each year.

The Fire Commission recently voted to purchase 63 black ties for the men, at 77 cents each.

Members and friends of the YWCA welcomed parents of Bates College students into their homes for bed and breakfast last week in what is hoped will be an annual fall event.

The program offered an alternative to the limited motel space in the area and enabled visitors to the Lewiston campus to get a flavor of the community in which their children are living.

The 11 families participating paid a nominal fee for rooms and breakfast, and the money will help fund YWCA programs.
