GREENE — About two acres of a wooded area here burned Tuesday night in a fire about a half-mile from the Sabattus-Greene town line. The Sabattus Fire Department responded to the evening fire on the end of Lake Street Extension.

After arriving at the scene and initiating an attack on the fire, Fire Chief Paul LeBel notified the Greene Fire Department, as the fire was located in its jurisdiction.

The traveling distance for the Sabattus Fire Department to areas of Lake Street Extension in Greene is less than for the Greene Fire Department. Response time is, likewise, considerably faster for Sabattus FD. However, official responsibility lies with the Greene department.
