Aino H. Starbird
1916 – 2009
SOUTH PARIS — Aino H. Starbird, 92, of South Paris died peacefully in her home that she loved so much on Thursday, Oct. 15.
She was born on the family farm in Greenwood on Dec. 30, 1916, the daughter of Arvi and Lyttii Kyllonen. She attended the Tubbs School in Greenwood. After she completed her education, she worked as a homemaker for several families in the Norway/Paris area.
She married Harold Starbird in 1938 and started a family 1940. She worked full time at Burnham and Morrill for 35 years, many times working double shifts. She retired in 1984. She and her husband built two homes in South Paris.
She belonged to the Bakers and Confectionary Union.
She was a founding member of the Finnish American Heritage Society and a member of the Paris Cape Historical Society. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens with her husband. They raised roses and magnolia trees.
She traveled to Finland to see the birth place of her parents and visit with cousins there. She also went on a sightseeing trip to Russia. She had a fondness for hummingbirds and her son, Peter’s horses, Annie and Angel.
She is survived by her son, Peter W. Starbird of South Paris; her daughter, Joan Bourgois and her husband, Tom, of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Scott, Eric and April; two great-grandchildren, Fritzraymond and Trajan Luca; a sister, Olga Starbird and her husband, Stephen, of South Paris; five very special nieces and nephews; several grandnieces and grandnephews, whom she always enjoyed visits.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1976; and two brothers, Eino and Edwin.
