James E. ‘Jim’ Durgin
1953 – 2009
RUMFORD — James E. “Jim” Durgin, 56, of Mexico, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 19, at the Rumford Hospital after a courageous 14 month battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Waterville, Jan. 3, 1953, a son of Perlie R. “Lee” and Mildred Arlene (Cayford) Durgin, and graduated from Dirigo High School in Dixfield, Class of 1971.
He had worked as a meat cutter at Holmes Market in Dixfield for more than 26 years and then he worked as a custodian and bus driver for Regional School Union 10.
Jim was a member of the Rumford Falls Aerie 1248, F.O.E., the National Rifle Association, and a member of the School Union. He was very proud to be an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed the outdoors, and gun and coin collecting. He was a very kind and giving person and loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his father, Perlie R. “Lee” Durgin of Dixfield; sisters, Sonjia Ellis and husband, Carl, of Rumford, Donna Landry and husband, James, of Mexico and Joni Clarkin of Madison; several nieces; and a nephew.
