HARRISON — An unidentified motorist boarded a school bus carrying high school students home Monday afternoon after at least two students made inappropriate gestures toward the driver of a vehicle trailing the bus on Route 117, Assistant Superintendent Rick Colpitts told the Board of Directors on Monday night.

Colpitts said the incident occurred on Route 117 in Harrison when bus No. 6 stopped to let students out. While the incident is still under investigation and details were sketchy, Colpitts said he was told at least two students were involved in “unkind behavior” that included gestures.

“The bus came to a stop and the motorist got on,” Colpitts said after the meeting. The bus driver was able to get the motorist off the bus and called police. Colpitts said he was told that both Bridgton police and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call.

Colpitts said he was told the motorist was not charged with any crime.

Neither Bridgton police nor the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office had any details about the incident available Monday night. Sgt. Kerry Joyce of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said no information would be available until Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile Colpitts said the bus driver was expected to submit an incident report to school officials and the students would be meeting with the principal Tuesday.

“It will be fully dealt with by tomorrow morning,” he said.
