Preston ‘Pete’ Purinton Jr.
1941 – 2009

LEWISTON — Preston “Pete” Purinton Jr., 68, resident of West Road in Bowdoin, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, at d’Youville Pavilion after a long illness.

He was born July 9, 1941, in Bowdoin, a son of Preston Purinton and Mabel (Lewis) Purinton Charles. He was educated in South China and graduated from Erskine Academy in 1959. After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Army.

He was employed for many years at the Maine Department of Corrections at the Maine State Prison as well as at the prison in South Windham. He had also been employed at Bath Iron Works, Central Maine Medical Center and for the Knox County Sheriff’s Department. He also kept himself busy as a lobsterman and his love of the ocean and boats brought him a position as a commercial boat broker, for which he traveled to the Island of Grenada in the West Indies.

Survivors include his wife, Martha (Raymond) Purinton of Bowdoin; a daughter, Susan and her husband, Charles and their daughter, Shawntae Jones of Bowdoin; two brothers, Harold Charles of South China and Howard Charles of Skowhegan; three sisters, Priscilla Daigle of Fort Kent, Nancy Bennett of Colorado and Mary Morgan of Falmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
