AUBURN – Lewiston Middle School downed Auburn Recreation Department, 28-12, in a Western Maine Football League eighth-grade game that left both teams at 3-2 to conclude the regular season. It set up a playoff rematch at 4 p.m. Thursday in Lewiston. The winner will face the winner of the Mt. Blue Gardiner game for the championship.
In the JV game, Auburn defeated Lewiston 26-0. In 3rd a
Auburn Blue defeated the Turner Wildcats, 26-0, in Grade 3-4 action. Josh Hamel had two touchdowns for Auburn Blue. Alex Merchant and Quinn Woods also scored. Damon Rossignol was the leading tackler for Auburn Blue. Tristan Swan and Aiden Palmer led the Wildcats.
Auburn Yellow picked up its first win of the season by downing the Turner Pirates, 12-6. Kyle Herald scored both touchdowns for Auburn Yellow. Isaac Sterling led Auburn with 11 tackles. Devaunte Rembert also helped lead the rushing attack for Auburn. Gunner Rowe scored the touchdown for the Pirates. Bryce Hudson and Kyle Teacutter were the leading tacklers for Turner.
Monmouth defeated Auburn Red, 31-6, in a Grade 5-6 tilt. Connor Nilson was the standout scorer for Monmouth with three long touchdown runs. Chris Harmon also scored for Monmouth, which received a big interception from Drake Goupal. Gage Dalphonse scored the lone touchdown for Auburn Red. Matt Verrill hit Steve Simpson with three long pass plays for Auburn Red.
In the last game of the day, Auburn White defeated Poland, 14-0, in a great defensive battle. C.J. Jipson had three interceptions for Auburn White. Linebackers Noah Yarnevich and Drew Lashua, noseguard Jack Coyne and defensive end Isaac Lapointe also played excellent games for Auburn. Jipson hit Lashua with an 11-yard touchdown pass and ran 10 yards for the other Auburn score. Coyne kicked both extra points for Auburn.
