GREENE — The Gawler Family will bring an eclectic assortment of old and new sounds from many folk traditions to the Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial on Friday, Oct. 23. This will be the last program of the year.

John and Ellen Gawler and their daughters, Edith and Elsie, accompany their warm interweaving family harmonies with fiddles, banjo, wooden bango, cello, guitar, ukulele and piano. Whether they are crooning a quietly poignant ballad or delivering a rollicking fiddle tune, their arrangements often go along with antidotes of historical or humorous content.

Although the Gawlers may be best known for their collection of dance tunes in Scots-Irish and French-Canadian traditions, their repertoire may include a gutsy Appalachian work song, a “Sweet Honey in the Rock” a cappella number or an amusing ode to everyday life.

Performances will be at 2 and 7 p.m. Admission is free. Sawyer Memorial is at 371 Sawyer Road. For more information, call 946-5311.
