LEWISTON — Advocates for Children will partner with New Beginnings, Washburn Elementary, SAD 52 and other local agencies to host a variety of Nurturing Parenting Programs for parents and their children starting this fall.
The Nurturing Parenting Program consists of a series of classes for the entire family. Parents and children will meet separately with trained facilitators. Families will come together during the session for refreshments and group activities.
Children will develop greater self-esteem, learn about positive attitudes, practice how to respect others’ feelings and role-play ways to effectively manage stress and anger.
Parents will learn how to establish nurturing routines for meal times, bedtimes and chores. They will learn alternatives to yelling by discovering more effective discipline techniques.
All participants will learn how to create family rules, gain a sense of personal power and practice feeling good about themselves.
The Nurturing Parenting Program is for any family that that wants to learn to communicate better and feel closer to each other.
The programs are being funded by support from
United Way of Androscoggin County, Auburn Community Development Block
Grant funding and the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative.
