POLAND — As a tribute to creature features of yesteryear and in a salute to naiveté, paranoia and a particularly macabre season, the Poland Players will open its theater season with “Little Shop of Horrors.”

The campy, energetic and fast-moving show will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29-31, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, in Dr. Wall Theatre at Poland Regional High School.

“Little Shop of Horrors” is a lighthearted musical parody which tells the story of Seymour Krelborn, an naïve nerd who discovers a mysterious plant during a total eclipse of the sun. Of course, the plant is not exactly an innocent philodendron, and when Seymour discovers that the plant thrives on blood, difficult choices ensue.

A blend of community members and students, the cast includes Nathan Williams as Seymour, Natasha Johnson as Audrey, Elizabeth Leino as Audrey, John Ponger as the dentist, Tim McKellick as the Plant, Bruce Gerry as Mushnick, Sarah Carboneau as Chiffon, Emily DeTroy as Shirell, Mary McKellick as Cookie, Chiana Charity as Ronnette and Jennifer McCool as Chantal. Audrey II will make a guest appearance, courtesy of Character Translations Inc.

“Little Shop of Horrors” is directed by D’Arcy F. Robinson, with musical direction by Victoria Stubbs.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students. For more information or reservations, call Robinson at 998-5400, extension 218, or e-mail [email protected].
