Read-a-thon
NORWAY — The Norway Memorial Library’s Teen Activity Group will hold a Read-A-Thon from 2:15 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the library. The event will raise funds for homeless and low-income teens this Christmas. Anyone in grades seven to 12 are invited to take part in the annual fundraising event.
Those wishing to participate need to register and pick up a pledge form, either at the library’s Information Desk or by e-mailing [email protected]. Participants who don’t bring a book to read will have plenty of books to choose from.Deadline to register is Saturday, Oct. 31.
Halloween party
NORWAY — The Second Congregational Church of Norway will host at Halloween party from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. All of the proceeds will go to UNICEF. There will be games, prizes and a haunted house. The cost for unlimited access to games and activities is $5 each child or $10 maximum each family. A macaroni and cheese and hot dog supper will be available for $3. For more information, call 743-2290.
Hike the river
NEWRY — Hike the River, a two-mile hike will be held at
11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. All of the funds raised will go to the Maine Cancer
Foundation in support of breast cancer research, education and patient
support programs in Maine.
The hike will begin at The Phoenix House and Well, 6 Timberline Dr. and travel up some of Sunday River’s trails.

Shelter fundraiser
NORWAY — Responsible Pet Care will have a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament
from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at
Charlie’s Entertainment Center, 246 Main St. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. The entry fee is $55
and checks will be accepted
for ticket sales until seven days prior to the event. Tickets are available at Spare Closet Revisited, 446 Main St.,
