LEWISTON — On Nov. 1, Fiddle-icious will fill the Franco-American Heritage Center with its joyous, toe-tapping music from Quebecois, Acadian, Scottish and Irish traditions.
Beginning at 2 p.m., the group directed by master fiddler Don Roy, accompanied by Cindy Roy on the piano, will perform reels, jigs, aires, marches, hornpipes, waltzes, step dancing and singing.
Besides fiddle, members play guitars, flutes, banjos, tin whistles, accordions, cellos, violas, mandolins, harps, stand-up bass and other instruments. They have diverse musical abilities, range in age from youth to retirees and are engaged in occupations as varied as blacksmith and veterinarian.
The emphasis within the orchestra is on following the oral tradition of learning music from a live performance. The orchestra evolved out of monthly workshops Roy founded to share his musical heritage.
For reservations, call 689-2000 or purchase tickets online at www.francoamericanheritage.org. Concert tickets are $12, $10 for students and seniors. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.
