LEWISTON — The Franco-American Heritage Center will hold auditions for a choral presentation of “The Sound of Music” on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7-8.

This marks the first time open auditions will be held at the center, giving residents of Lewiston-Auburn and surrounding communities the opportunity to sing in the renovated former St. Mary’s Church.

The music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II for this story of the well known von Trapp Family have long had universal appeal.

Auditions will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 7 for singing roles for the seven von Trapp children: Leisl, mezzo; Friedrich, soprano; Louisa, mezzo; Kurt,sorprano; Brigitta, mezzo; Marta, mezzo; and Gretl, mezzo.

Auditions will begin at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 for the following singing adult roles: Maria, sorprano; Captain von Trapp, baritone; Mother Abbess, sorprano; Max Detweiler, baritone; Baroness Elsa Schraeder, alto; six nuns, mezzo; and Rolf Gruber, baritone.

Auditioners should be prepared to sing a song from “The Sound of Music.” An accompanist will be provided.
